How is the Pace-of-Play at your Golf Club? Slow?

S-L-O-W?

Often times, we golfers are slow without realizing it. We think we’re “good”, but actually, we’re “out-of-position”. But how to know where, on the course, we should be in relation to where we actually are? That’s where this app, ‘SLO poke’, can lead the way.

‘SLO poke’ moves around the golf course at a pace customized for your course. That pace is established by your Club in the app and disseminated to players via a Quick Response (QR) Code created and read by the app.

Each hole is divided into segments. Par 4 holes, for example, have segments:
• Hitting from Tee
• Going to Tee Shot
• Hitting to Green
• Going to Green
• Putting on Green
• Going to next Tee

Tap ‘START’ on the first tee and ‘Round over’ when you walk off the eighteenth green. In between, take an occasional look at the app to see where you should be on the course in relation to where you actually are.

Depicted in the five screenshots above is our round of golf at the mythical Windy Ridge Golf Resort in historic Gilroy, California:
1. 8:45am – Launch App. Scan QR Code.
2. 9:00am – “Play Away”. Tap START.
3. 10:43am – We’re on 8th green. On-pace.
4. 12:46pm – We’re on 16th green. Behind.
5. 1:15pm – ‘Round over’. 3 minutes behind.

‘SLO poke’ needs that customized QR Code describing your course for it to work for you as depicted above. If one exists, great! But what if it doesn’t? Well, in that case, get together with the golf professional and/or the golf committee at your Club. Get them involved. OR, you could take the initiative and just do it yourself. Calculate a recommended time to play your course. ‘SLO poke’ will formulate and AirPrint the resulting QR Code. It can then be posted around the club - locker rooms, golf shop, bulletin boards, newsletters, etc. Promote its use within your group of players. It will only take a few minutes of your time, and your fellow golfers will thank you.
